Common Entrance Test :

The Indian Maritime University (IMU) was established on 14th November 2008 as a teaching and affiliating University under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, with Chennai as headquarters.

It was set up to promote maritime studies, training, research and extension with focus on emerging areas like oceanography, maritime history, maritime laws, maritime security, search and rescue, transportation of dangerous cargo, environmental studies and other related fields, and to achieve excellence in these areas.

Diploma in Nautical Science leading to B.Sc., Applied Nautical Science is a 36 month programme which includes 12 months pre-sea training at an Institute followed by 18 months of on-board sea service, and 6 months of post sea training for preparation of 2nd Mate Competency Examination.

Qualification:
(i) Pass in (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60%.
OR
B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 50% of marks in the final year.
OR
B.E/B.Tech. Degree from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by AICTE with an average of not less than 50% of marks in the final year.
AND
(ii) The candidates should have obtained 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th Std. or in the Degree course conducted by recognized Board or any University. Relaxation: 5% Relaxation in eligibility marks to SC/ST candidates. No relaxation in English language marks.

Admission in to February 2017 DNS Programme :
Admissions to Diploma in Nautical Science leading to B.Sc. (Applied Nautical Science) programme of February 2016 Batch in Affiliated Institutes are open only to ‘Sponsored Candidates’, i.e. candidates “sponsored” by Ship Owning or Managing Companies, RPSL Agencies and those who qualify in IMU’s CET.

(a) Common Entrance Tests for Admissions to DNS – Feb 2017 Batch for Sponsored Candidates Admission to DNS programme of the Affiliated Institutes will be through All India Computer Based Online Common Entrance Test for which the candidates have to appear.

The Syllabus for CET for UG programmes will be Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, English, General Knowledge and Aptitude at Plus 2 level (CBSE, ISE and State Boards). The questions will be of Multiple Choice Type.

The Application Fee is Rs.1000/- for General candidates and Rs.700/- for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates.

(b) Important Announcement:Computer-based CET Jan 2017:
For Conducting Computer based CET, the IMU has selected a Service Provider who will provide End-to-End Services for the successful conduct of the Computerbased CET January 2017, except for the setting of question papers which will be done by the University itself.

The End-to-End Services that the Service Provider will provide are:
** Online Registration of Applicants with facility to upload photographs scanned signatures and online payment of Registration Fees and to download and print filled-in applications in standard formats.

For Online Registration, Applicants should visit the website of the Indian Maritime University at imu.edu.inand click on the “CET January2017” hyperlink.

** Provision for online payment of Registration Fees has been made. The successful payment of Registration Fees to the account of IMU will be a mandatory requirement for completion of Registration formalities.

** Arranging Test Venues at designated cities with sufficient number of computers, relevant software and necessary personnel to administer the CET smoothly without any hitch.

** Facility for Applicants to take at least 2 Web-based Mock Tests of a nature similar to IMU’s CET so that they can get familiar with the Computer-based mode of testing.
** Facility for Applicants to download their Hall Tickets/Admit Cards with the name of the Test Venue indicated.
** Automated e-mails/SMS to every registered Applicant on successful registration of Application, uploading of Hall Ticket, publication of results, etc.
** Conducting the CET at the designated Test Venues.
** Evaluation of answers and publication of CET results within 3 days.
** Applicants are also requested to periodically visit the IMU’s website imu.edu.in to keep track of new announcements and changes if any. This is very important.
** The IMU shall not be responsible for any mistakes committed by an Applicant owing to his negligence in this aspect.
** All correspondence to IMU regarding DNS January-CET-2017 shall be made via Email only at cetjan2017[at]imu.ac.in

Starting date for online registration 1st December 2016
Last date for Online Registration 19th December 2016 till 5.30 PM
Hall Tickets can be downloaded from 23rd December 2016
Date of Computer based CET Saturday, 7th January 2017, 2 pm to 5 pm
Date of Commencement of Programme 1st February 2017
