CLAT :

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a non-statutory body created under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the convenience of the students seeking admission to various National Law Universities in the country.

An entrance test is conducted to provide a list of candidates on the basis of ‘merit-cum-preference’ to each University for admission to their UG/PG programmes, as per the eligibility, reservation and other criteria laid down under the respective statutes of the participating Universities.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), is an all India entrance examination, conducted on rotation by 17 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate degree programmes. The 17 participating NLUs in the order of their year of establishment are:

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (WBNUJS)

Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar (GNLU)
Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (RMLNLU)

Chanakya National Law University, Patna (CNLU)
The National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi (NUALS)

The first CLAT Core Committee consisting of Vice-Chancellors of seven participating NLUs decided that a common entrance test shall be conducted by all the participating Universities on rotational basis in the order of their year of establishment. Accordingly, the first Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) was conducted in the year 2008. Presently there are 17 NLUs participating in CLAT and following the policy of rotation, the ninth Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2016) shall be conducted by Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab.

Eligibility Criteria for Appearing in CLAT-2016 :
For U G Programme :
Passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with the minimum of :-
(a) Forty-five percent(45%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/(Specially Abled Persons) Categories and
(b) Forty percent(40%) marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST Category

Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in April/May 2016 are also eligible for appearing in CLAT-2016 examination.
However, they shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall
lose their right to be considered for admission.

No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT-2016

For P G Programme :
LL.B. or equivalent degree in law examination with a minimum of 55% marks in case of Unreserved/OBC/(Specially abled persons) categories and 50% marks in case of SC/ST category

Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April 2016 are also eligible for appearing in CLAT-2016 examination.
However they shall be required to produce evidence of their passing the qualifying examination in the respective
National Law Universities at the time of admission failing which they shall
lose their right to be considered for admission.

No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT-2016

How to Apply :

Candidates can apply for CLAT-2016 ONLINE only. Candidates are advised to read the instructions carefully before filling the Online Application Form.

CAPS (CLAT Online Application Processing System) The candidates can do most of their interactions with CLAT through the CAPS interface provided at CLAT-2016 website. Through CAPS, a candidate can register and apply for CLAT-2016 examination, check the status of the application, download the admit card, know the result and they can also download the result and score card.

An online interface is provided for applicant’s interaction with the CLAT office. With this interface, an applicant can
**  Do Registration using “Register Yourself”.
**  Fill the online application form.
**  Upload photograph, signature, birth certificate and category certificate.
**  Pay the application fee either by ONLINE/OFFLINE mode.
**  Download previous year question papers.
The login to this interface is through your CAPS Registration ID and a CAPS password. The Candidates are advised to keep this information safe and not to disclose it to anyone.

Information/Document Requirements before filling online Application Form Before registering and logging in to CAPS, a candidate is advised to keep the following information/documents ready:
**  Personal information (name, E-mail address, mobile number, date of birth, parent’s name, parent’s mobile number, etc.)
**  Address for communication (including PIN code)
**  Essential Qualification details (Percentage of marks/CGPA, University/college information)
**  Programme in which the candidate wishes to appear (UG Course or PG Course)
**  Three choices of CLAT examination cities
**  Front facing Passport size clear photograph of the Candidate with clear lenses (30mm x 45 mm) [JPG Format, size not more than 100 kb].
**  Signature of candidate [JPG Format, size not more than 100 kb]
**  Scanned copy of SC/ST/SAP Certificates in pdf format only (if applicable)
**  Scanned copy of Domicile Category in pdf format only (if applicable)
**  Net banking login and password to make the application fee payment via online net banking mode. In case the payment is to be made through debit card/credit card, then the candidate is required to have the information like debit card/credit card number, password, CVV number etc.

Important Dates :
Starting date for submission of online application form 1st January, 2016 (Friday)
Last date for submission of filled-in online application form 31st March, 2016 (Thursday)
Download of Admit Cards/Hall Tickets From 15th April, 2016 (Friday)
Date of CLAT 2016 Online examination for UG & PG 8th May, 2016 (Sunday), 3 PM to 5 PM
