Ph.D Admission Entrance Examination

The Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth operates its PhD Programme on the lines of the UGC guidelines from time to time. PhD programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, and maximum of six years including the course work. However, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University may extend the duration as per UGC provisions, based on the justification. Date of Entrance Examination is 10th February, 2024.

Disciplines of PhD Programme

The PhD programme is conducted by most of the Schools/ Departments of Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth. The disciplines include – Computer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics,English, Commerce & Management, Education, Law, Psychology, Mass Communication etc.

Eligibility of Ph.D. Entrance Exam

** Ph. D in Engineering / Technology or related disciplines For admission to Ph. D Programs in Engineering/Technology or related disciplines, the candidate must have minimum 55% marks or minimum grade equivalent to 55% marks in M.E/ M.Tech in related/ allied disciplines.

** Ph. D in Management, Pharmacy and Non-Engineering Disciplines For Ph. D Programs in Management, Pharmacy and Non- Engineering fields, the candidate must have minimum 55% marks or equivalent Grade in PG Degree in related/ allied disciplines.

There may be additional eligibility requirements notified by UGC and/ or by the individual Departments/ Schools.

PhD Admission Process

a. PhD admission shall be done twice in an academic year, generally in July and January, on the basis of written test followed by interview. The exact dates for the same shall be notified on the website of the Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth.
b. Interested candidates can apply against the advertisements, in the prescribed application forms available from the Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth and on the website, from time to time.
c. The Entrance Test shall be a qualifying test for admission in PhD programme. The syllabus for the entrance examination is available at the Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth website: www.lingayasvidyapeeth.edu.in which is updated from time to time.

d. Exemption from Entrance test: Candidates who have qualified in UGC/ CSIR (JRF) Examination/ SLET/ GATE / M .Phil etc. may not be required to appear for entrance written test of the University. However, their appearance in the interview shall be mandatory for admission for such category candidates.

e. Selection: A merit list will be prepared Department wise for admission based on the performance in the Entrance Test. Only a pre- determined number of students, depending upon available facilities, shall be selected for admission in the Ph. D programme.

Selection Process of Ph.D. Entrance Exam

The provisional admission of candidates shall be made, based on entrance test, followed by inter – view / presentation.
Stage 1: Entrance Test
a) The Entrance Test will be conducted by the University.
b) Candidates are required to bring with them an original identity proof having photograph, such as Aadhar Card, Voter ID Card, Driving License, Passport and ID Card issued by Govt. Agencies.
c) Entrance Test (70 Marks) of 90 minutes duration, will be held in the University Campus.
d) The syllabus of the Entrance Test is as per the ‘University Grants Commission (UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for award of Ph.D Degree) Regulations, 2022 comprising 50% on Research methodology and 50% on Specific subject.

e) The syllabus for the entrance test consists of 50% of Research Methodology as Part-A and 50%Subject Specific as Part-B. There will be 35 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) from Part-A and 35 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) from Part-B in the Entrance Test with one mark each with no negative marking.

f) Those who secure at least 50% marks in the Entrance Test (45% marks in case of SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layers) / Differently abled persons, EWS and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time will be shortlisted for the interview in order of merit subject to the available seats.)

Stage 2: Interview/ Presentation
a) Short-listed Candidates in the Entrance Test will be called for interview/presentation of research area before the Discipline specific Departmental Research Committee.
b) The Interview (30 Marks) will be conducted for shortlisted candidates.
c) Offer letters for admission will be sent to the Selected Candidates only.

The merit list for admission shall be prepared by Departmental Research Committee according to the following criteria UGC Notification on (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022 dated 7th November, 2022.
a) 70% marks from the entrance/70% marks to the candidates exempted from entrance.
b) 30% marks based on performance in the interview/viva-voce to be conducted by the respective Department.
